A woodland mini-habitat in a birch-wrapped container with Asarum Caudatum (Wild Ginger), moss, branches, Douglas Fir cone, adorned with faux bird, mushroom, and ladybug.

Western wild ginger is an often overlooked but ubiquitous member of various forest communities at low to middle elevations, from British Columbia south to California, and as far east as western Montana. With substantial tree cover and rich soils, these communities occur in areas with mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers, on fairly flat ground to moderate slopes, where they help control erosion.

Care instructions:
Perfect for your covered partial to full shaded patio or balcony. Place it in your sink and water once a week slowly around the plant until water drips at the bottom; mist it twice in between watering. Your mini-habitat will stay in the container between 6 to a year. Once the plant outgrow the container, you can either transfer it into a bit bigger container or plant it in your garden.

Care instructions:

Perfect for your covered partial to full shaded patio or balcony for the fern and montia and bright indirect light for native sedum and coastal strawberry. Place it in your sink horizontally and water slowly from the top of the plant for 3-5 minutes once a week; mist it twice in between watering.

Kokedama, which means moss ball, is one of the art form of bonsai; also called Poor Man’s bonsai. Decorate your interior or outdoor rooms with this cute moss ball with easy care. Best placed in indirect or filtered sunlight.

CARE: Once a week, immerse the moss ball part in water for 10-15 minutes then make sure you squeeze out the excess water as much as you could before placing or hanging it back. Lightly mist the moss twice a week.

Handcrafted locally & made of reclaimed Locust wood from deconstructed Portland homes. The dowel is made from cherry and has a slot for the cherry hook on the end. The back is a D-ring and can be hung with a standard picture hook. Perfect for other creative purposes. Dimension: 24"H X 3.5"W X 1"D.

Hanging kokedama/moss ball is sold separately — Delivery service for $10 within Portland Metro or pick-up at NE studio on February 14th.

PLACEMENT:
Place it in bright indirect light or shade depending on the plant; indoor or outdoor avoiding direct sunlight (native plants prefer covered area outside).

SOAKING (CHECK ONCE A WEEK WHEN IT FEELS DRY OR LIGHT):
Immerse the ball part in a bowl of water, plant side up. Push the moss ball down so that it is fully submerged and begins to absorb water. Allow to soak for 10-15 minutes or until fully saturated with water. Remove kokedama from the water & gently squeeze the moss ball to take out excess water as much as you could (IMPORTANT STEP TO PREVENT MOLD). Over the time, you will be able to know when your kokedama needs to be soaked from its weight (soak when it is light and feels dry).

MISTING (BETWEEN SOAKING):
You are also welcome to mist the moss LIGHTLY to keep it green every other day depending on your indoor environment.

TIPS:
Remove any dead or diseased foliage to keep the plant healthy. You are welcome to prune it to keep it small (same concept as bonsai).
If roots start to show through, its time to re-plant it into a container or in the ground.

IMPORTANT:
If it is native, you can either plant it into a bigger container and place it outside OR plant it in the ground as part of your backyard in partial to full-shade area.
If it’s an indoor/tropical/non-native, please keep it indoor.
